In the article the author introduced the organization and activity of the soviet consulate in Szczecin during the first period of its existence (1948–1960). He determined the reasons behind the creation and the shutdown of the consulate, established internal structures and briefly described each head of the soviet consulate. The activities of the soviet consulate were described on the basis of the work of each consul: Iwan Borisow, Borys Zybin, Fiodor Szarykin and Iwan Skaczkow. Soviet consuls in Szczecin, owing to careful observation of social, political and economic life in the area, were an authoritative source of information for the superiors in Moscow. Each of them, in the course of work duties observed if the local authorities, carried out communistic political and economic reformation. The Soviet Union’s decision to close the consulate in Szczecin in the early sixties of the XX century was not final, due to its reopening in 1971.
