The cemetery in Lasowiec (until 1945 - Sternwalde, Kr. Sensburg) was excavated at first in 1901 by E. Hollack. Little is known, however, about the results of his works because of the lack of publication. More data about archaeological materials from this cemetery are scattered in the files of F. Jakobson. The site was “rediscovered” in July 2010, when pieces of bones and pottery were found. Almost the entire area of the site was destroyed by ploughing and ground works. In the course of rescue excavations led in August 2010, the entire area was surveyed with metal detectors. Finds (including Roman coins) from the surface and destroyed layers were recorded. Trenches were laid out in places of the greatest concentrations of finds. In result, one destroyed horse grave, traces of cremation graves and several loose objects were found. The information obtained in result of investigations allowed to confirm the chronology of this cemetery of the Bogaczewo Culture and the Olsztyn Group (Phases B2/C1-E).
