Autor dokonuje przeglądu rozumienia terminu wzoru biografii w naukach społecznych, korzystając z szerokiej tradycji socjologii niemieckiej i anglosaskiej. Przedstawia relacje pomiędzy wzorem biografii a wzorem osobowym, przebiegiem życia. Omawia funkcje jakie pełnią wzory biografii w życiu aktualnie żyjących jednostek. Wskazuje także na zmiany, które zaszły w organizacji współczesnych społeczeństw i ich znaczenie dla ludzkiej aktywności modyfikujące możliwe wzory biografii. Artykuł może inspirować do badań nad wzorami biografii we współczesnym społeczeństwie polskim, w tym także nad trudnościami w ich urzeczywistnieniu w życiu konkretnych jednostek.

The author performs a review of the understanding of the concept of biography model in social science using the wide tradition of German and Anglo-Saxon sociology. He further shows the relationship between the model of a biography, the model of a person and the course of one’s life. There is a discussion on the functions fulfilled by biography models in the lives of living individuals. The author also points to the changes that occurred in the organisation of contemporary societies and their significance for human activity modifying possible biography models. The article may inspire to undertake research on biography models in the contemporary Polish society including the research on the difficulties in their realisation in the lives of particular individuals.
