This article focuses on the ways of understanding, perceiving and evaluating tradition by folk culture users in oral lore. The data are collected from spontaneous utterances of the oldest villagers as well as intergenerational transfer, e.g. legends, fables, folk sayings. The image of tradition, as preserved in the mentality of the informants, has been divided into different domains: cultural, axiological, existential, social as well as psychological.
