History of interests in culture and national heritage has deep roots. At the beginning, artefacts were “exhibited” for the wider public in temples, at agorae, or later in royal palaces and castles. Afterwards, the specialised collections were formed (e.g. studioli, cabinets des curieux, wunderkammern, Kunstkammern). Within the space of centuries the education methods also changed. In Poland, the birth of teaching aids and popularizing literature about the Past, could be dated to the Age of the Enlightenment. In the course of time books for pupils and manuals for teachers of history started to appear, as well as various albums and colourful school plates which depicted archaeological artefacts. Historical novels were also in full bloom, e.g. Bolesław Prus Faraon or Henryk Sienkiewicz Quo vadis.
