Jaroslav Pánek served on the supreme ruling body of the Czech Aacademy of Sciences (CAS) for a full eight years, in the years 2005–2013 as the Vice-Chairman responsible for the complex co-ordination of concepts for the Third Scientific Division and for addressing scientific and organizational issues at the institutions of the 7th–9th Sections. At a time when he was part of the inner management of the CAS and headed the Third Scientific Division, he promoted the respect for and prestige of the social sciences and humanities not merely within the Academy of Sciences and Czech society but also abroad.
