The conference was opened by Doctor Bohdan Rymaszewski, Conservator General o f Historical Monuments o f the Polish People’s Republic. The starting point o f his address was the statement that ruins were not popular in Poland because o f the reminiscences o f the devastations suffered by this country as a result o f the hostilities o f the Second World War. Hence the need to appeal to the consciousness o f the society and make it understand that the ruins o f historical monuments should be treated as records o f the past. The conference is just one o f the measures taken for the purpose o f na exchange o f experience in preservation o f ruins o f that kind.
