W artykule przedstawiono wybrane koncepcje opisu i pomiaru jakości życia. Porównano wybrane wskaźniki jakości życia w Polsce i innych krajach UE. Analizy oparto na danych pochodzących z baz krajów lub organizacji międzynarodowych: GUS, Eurostat, OECD. Dane przedstawione w tabelach i na rysunkach prezentują: struktury oraz dynamikę zmiennych. W wyniku przedstawionych analiz można wnioskować, że poprawia się jakość życia mieszkańców Polski w porównaniu z mieszkańcami innych krajów UE. Procentowy udział wydatków na żywność w budżecie Polaków zmniejsza się, choć nadal wynosi około 20%. W Polsce i w krajach UE wzrasta oczekiwana długość życia zarówno mężczyzn, jak i kobiet. Polska znajduje się w gronie krajów, których największa część obywateli obawia się utraty pracy. Polacy nisko oceniają swoje zadowolenie z życia. Na podstawie przedstawionych analiz można wnioskować, że Polska nadal pozostaje krajem, w którym wartości wskaźników dotyczących jakości życia są niższe niż w innych krajach UE.

The paper presents selected ideas for describing and measuring the quality of life. Some indicators of life quality in Poland and other EU ountries are presented. The analyses are based on data derived from databases of particular countries or international organizations: GUS, Eurostat, OECD. The data shown in tables and figures present structure and dynamics of selected indicators. It could be concluded that the life quality of the Polish population is improving when compared to the residents of other EU countries. The percentage share of food expenses in the Poles' budget has been reduced but it is still about 20%. Life expectancy of men and women has increased in Poland and other EU countries. Poland is among countries with the highest level of job loss fear. Polish citizens express low level of life satisfaction. On the basis of the analysis it could be concluded that Poland remains a country where the values of the indicators of quality of life are unfavourable, when compared with other EU countries.
