Radical East? Some Notes on Pound’s “Ignorant” Translations from the Chinese

Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie wpływu badań sinologa Ernesta Fenollosy (1953–1908) na styl poetycki Ezry Pounda. Notatki pozostawione przez Fenollosę w chwili jego śmierci zawierały teorię języka poetyckiego wywiedzioną z jego częściowo nieprawidłowego rozumienia natury języka chińskiego. Chociaż zarówno Pound jak i Fenollosa czytali chińską poezję z perspektywy zachodu, to jednak nie zgadzam się ze zdaniem niektórych krytyków, że przekłady Pounda nie mają nic wspólnego z Chinami. Podążając za argumentami Zhaominga Qiana twierdzę, że Chiny wywarły istotny wpływ na Pounda i innych amerykańskich poetów. Ten wpływ pomógł Poundowi stworzyć poetykę, której polityczne konsekwencje wybiegają daleko poza szaloną agitację uprawianą przez poetę podczas drugiej wojny światowej. Takie odczytanie jest możliwe dzięki spojrzeniu na poetykę Pieśni przez pryzmat tekstów Jacques’a Rancière’a i wprowadzego w nich pojęcia “heterologii” oraz koncepcji “emancypacji” (The Ignorant Schoolmaster).
