An important factor in building the academic community is the atmosphere (corporate culture) which is the resultant of the process of merging, creating whole from the part or effects of that process as well as the goal-oriented actions focused on maintaining the whole (which requires exceptional enhancing or protecting conditions). It is a complex of inter-dependent changes leading to connect the components in a given sphere, domain or aspect of social life. The fact of its continuity it is not without meaning for the existence of academic community which is weaved by relations with great authorities. The fi ght for social capital which allows the control of mechanisms creating the domain is a fi ght for scientifi c authority. The scientifi c community which is shown with no criticism and is being idealized in the description of the sphere of science disappears if that domain becomes the area of strife. The academic community, as any other social group, might be more organized in one aspect and less in another or it can even be disorganized. Full integration takes place when the degrees of integration in given spheres: cultural, normative, communicational, functional in given so- 27 J. Any social changes and transformations taking place in Poland and the attempts to reform the higher education overlap each other and contribute to the democratic defi cit of transformation masked by ritualization of appearances of development.
