Until the Nobel Prize awarding in 1980, the name of Czesław Miłosz had remained unknown in Romania. That was followed by a long period of silence caused by the political situation in Poland and the activities of the trade union ‘Solidarność’, which resulted in the reluctance towards Poland of the Soviet bloc countries. It was not till the transformations of the governmental system and the abolition of censorship that the situation changed. Up till now, thanks to the passion and the translation effort of the professor of Polish Constantin Geambas and the poet Passionarii Stoicescu, the whole journalistic output of Miłosz has been translated and published in Bucharest.
