Julia Domna, wife of the Emperor L. Septimius Severus(193–211) and Caracalla’s (211–217) mother earned numerous titles (confirmed in particular in epigraphic relics) in the course of her life: Augusta, mater castrorum, mater Caesaris, mater Augusti et Caesaris, mater senatus et patriae, mater Augustorum, Pia Felix. The juxtaposition and analysis of these titles allows us to conclude that the foundation of the Empress’ state position was her actual and propaganda motherly functions which she performed both in domus divina and the entire Imperium Romanum.
