The problem of the gypsy building a rt specimens, i.e. homes and farm buldings (chiefly old gypsy forges) that are still to be found in Carpatian Mountains and the neighbouring region of Podkarpacie have been dealt with by the author who at the same time presented their basic types in their various stages of development. As the tradition of gypsy building art is perishing very fastly in our days the author suggested that the still existing objects should be preserved in situ in the form of open-air museums, comprising both existing and re-erected buildings forming a gypsy settlement or by transferring of the most typical buildings to the site of an existing skansen- type museum of rustic buildings. Such an action could represent the first step having no its equivalent in other countries.
