The Act of August 5, 2015, on Free Legal Assistance and Legal Education introduced solutions to the Polish legal system enabling people whose financial situation does not allow them to obtain this help from professional lawyers. During the validity of the Act, it can be distinguished into two important stages. From January 1, 2016 (entry into force of the law) until December 31, 2018, and from January 1, 2019, to date. As part of the Act of June 15, 2018, amending the Act on Free Legal Assistance and Legal Education and Certain Other Acts, free civic counselling, free mediation were introduced, and the catalogue of people eligible for the assistance system was extended. Since then, the legislative solutions have not fundamentally changed. However, in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, significant changes have been made to the functioning of the system of free legal assistance and free civic counselling. The most important of them are presented in the text.
