The objective of the paper is to briefly present the concept of institutional economics and show the role of fiscal policy as a determinant of economic growth. In the globalised modern world, institutional economics plays an important for the development of states. What is more, its significance for ensuring the progress of transition economies is steadily increasing. The paper investigates the usefulness of institutional theory for the development of positive economic trends in the global economy, with particular attention to its possible uses for counteracting the unstable conditions of contemporary Ukrainian economy. The author focuses on the application of the principles of institutionalism in building the foundations of institutional order in fiscal policy, oriented towards redistribution of GDP. In order to arrive at efficient solutions, attempts have been made to take into account the social, public and private interests in shaping the economic landscape of the Ukrainian state.
