The paper compares and analyses the issues of social policy in selected countries of the European Union, focusing on housing policy. This sub-section of social policy directly depends on the support via family policy and on the opportunities for young families to purchase their own housing. Yet another objective of this paper is mapping the historical development as well as the analysis of current housing policy instruments. Last but not least, we focus on the standard of living and legal aspects involved in this area of social policy in the post-communist state in comparison to the economically richest countries of the European Union countries - Germany and Great Britain.
