Starość, jak każdy etap życia, jest dla chrześcijanina wyzwaniem duchowo-moralnym. Pierwszym wymogiem moralnym odnośnie do starości jest pogodzenie się ze swoim wiekiem i wynikającą z niego kondycją psychofizyczną. W świetle poczynionych analiz wykazano, że pełną i prawdziwą akceptację starości może dokonać jedynie ten, komu towarzyszy nadzieja na życie wieczne. Wiara religijna bowiem pomaga w akceptacji starości i konieczności śmierci. W perspektywie chrześcijańskiej ludzka egzystencja nie zamyka się horyzontem doczesności, ale towarzyszy jej nadzieja wiecznotrwałej komunii z Bogiem. W okresie starości ważnym zadaniem moralnym jest przyjęcie właściwych priorytetów. Bardzo ważne jest świadome zmierzanie do uzyskania wewnętrznej autonomii, polegającej na wyzwoleniu się egocentryzmu i tego wszystkiego, co zagraża rozwojowi ludzkiemu i chrześcijańskiemu. Poważnym wyzwaniem duchowym w tym okresie jest przygotowanie się na śmierć. W obliczu starości i umierania chrześcijanin znajduje oparcie w Bogu. Świadomość obecności Boga pozwala mu w pokoju przyjmować koniec swego doczesnego istnienia. Śmierć jest chwilą spotkania z Bogiem. Dlatego wierzący bez lęku przygotowuje się na przejście. W ten sposób chrześcijanin w podeszłym wieku, także w swoim niedołęstwie i starczej bezradności, staje się znakiem nadziei dla innych. Świadczy bowiem swoją osobą, że życie, mimo cierpienia i trudu, naznaczone brakami i słabościami, może być wypełnione i „kompletne”.

The Christian approaching his old age faces yet another spiritual and moral challenge, just as he did throughout his life. His first moral task at this stage of life is to accept his advanced age and come to terms with the physical and psychological consequences of it. The research presented here indicates that only one driven by his religious faith and sustained by the hope of eternal life may sincerely accept his old age and inevitable death. This is because his Christian faith tells him that his death does not end anything, but opens him up to the everlasting communion with God. Another important moral challenge in man’s advanced years is putting his priorities right. He must shake off his egocentrism and all obstacles to his human and Christian development so that he can reach an internal autonomy. His conviction of God being at his side and watching over him may ease his spiritual tension and prepare for the ultimate end of his earthly sojourn not as something to be feared, but rather longed for: a passover, after which he would surely meet his beloved Maker. In his advanced age, with all its infirmities and helplessness, the Christian may be the bearer of hope to others by showing them that life, no matter how difficult and full of suffering, is worth living to the full of its natural end.

Das Alter, wie jede Phase des Lebens, ist für Christen eine geistige und moralische Herausforderung. Die erste Voraussetzung in moralischer Hinsicht auf das Alter ist das Akzeptieren des psycho-physischen Zustands. Durch die Analysen wurde gezeigt, dass eine vollständige und wahre Akzeptanz des Alters nur dann erreicht warden kann, wenn sie durch die Hoffnung auf das ewige Leben begleitet wird. Der religiöse Glaube hilft bei der Akzeptanz des Alters und der Notwendigkeit des Todes. In der christlichen Sicht wird die menschliche Existenz nicht im Horizont der Zeitlichkeit begriffen, sondern sie wird durch die Hoffnung auf die ewige Gemeinschaft mit Gott begleitet. Eine wichtige Aufgabe im Alter ist die moralische Annahme der entsprechenden Prioritäten. Sehr wichtig ist die Entscheidung in Bezug auf eine interne Einstellung, die die Befreiung von Egozentrismus beinhaltet und alles, was die menschliche und christliche Entwicklung bedroht. Eine große geistige Herausforderung in dieser Zeit ist die Vorbereitung auf den Tod. Angesichts des Alters und des Sterbens wird der Christ von Gott unterstützt. Das Bewusstsein der Gegenwart Gottes erlaubt es ihm, im Frieden das Ende seiner irdischen Existenz zu akzeptieren. Der Tod ist ein Moment der Begegnung mit Gott. Daher bereitet sich der Gläubige ohne Angst auf den Übergang vor. Auf diese Weise wird der Christ in seinem Alter auch trotz seiner Schwäche und Hilflosigkeit ein Zeichen der Hoffnung für Andere sein. Er bezeugt durch seine eigene Person, dass das Leben, trotz des Leidens und der Anstrengung durch Mängel und Schwächen markiert abgeschlossen und "vollständig" werden kann.
