The themed tourist routes are excellent way to promote cultural heritage of each region of Poland, especially such regions as Mazovia, where there is little general public knowledge about the cultural heritage landmarks. Despite over 6000 monuments existing in the region, the average resident of Mazovia is able to list approximately just 10. How can we incorporate the Mazovian relics into tourism and increase the public awareness of their existence? And what can be done to encourage tourists to devote more time to explore the relics? The answer is the Route of The Dukes of Mazovia. This is the first themed tourist route combining approximately 100 places located within the historic area of Mazovia. Their roots reside in times where Mazovia was an independent country governed by the Dukes of Mazovia. Themed routes such as the Route of the Dukes of Mazovia encourage tourists to visit not only one well known location, but also to explore more of the neighboring sights. This enables visitors to discover new monuments and sights, which would otherwise have been missed. A tourist route, which connects several sights and locations, is an instantly great planned trip. The shared traditions of the destinations within the route, promotes the understanding of their history, turning the sightseeing into an exciting adventure. This also has positive effects on the public awareness of cultural values within the different localities
