Zasada subsydiarności powoduje, że polityka na rzecz ochrony wolności i pluralizmu mediów pozostaje w gestii państw członkowskich. Niemniej jednak Unia Europejska podejmuje ważne inicjatywy w celu wspierania wolności i pluralizmu mediów oraz ograniczenia koncentracji rynkowej. W tej kwestii można zaobserwować niejednokrotnie odmienne podejście Parlamentu Europejskiego i Komisji. Artykuł przedstawia najważniejsze dokumenty oraz analizuje aktualnie realizowane działania w tym obszarze unijnej polityki medialnej.

The principle of subsidiarity in the EU refers to the principle that the Member States defi ne the ways to protect media freedom and pluralism. However, the European Union has taken important initiatives to promote freedom and pluralism of the media and the reduction of market concentration. In that regard, different approaches of the European Parliament and the Commission can be sometimes observed. This article presents the most important documents and analyzes the current actions in that particular area of EU media policy.
