The text attempts to show the importance of continuing education for human functioning in a changing world. Since lifelong learning has a rich tradition in literature thus bringing closer understanding of the term lifelong education. The most popular forms of lifelong learning and the extent of its use in Polish society are shown. The closing thoughts are on the importance of lifelong learning for human beings.
