The exhibition ‘Medals, Plaquettes and Tokens from the Art Nouveau Period’ (The National Museum in Wrocław, November 2009 – January 2010) was accompanied by a catalogue of the collection entitled the same, elaborated by Magdalena Karnicka. The merits of the publication and its editorial values were praised high, however, the attention was focused also on some faults in the choice of illustrations in the introductory text. The process of discovering Art Nouveau medallic art on the Polish ground was reminded very generally with the special attention paid to the role of collectors, especially Marek Kieszkowski, PhD (1935-2007), whose precious gatherings are at present in the Masovian Museum in Płock. An unpublished study by Fouad Dahdouh, PhD ‘Medallic Art in the Times of Art Nouveau’, Wrocław 1992, unknown to the author of the reviewed catalogue was also reminded. Some vast fragments of this elaboration, which refer to the problems of iconography of Art Nouveau medals, only merely signalled in Magdalena Karnicka’s text, were also included.
