Deregulacja zawodu urbanisty stała się faktem. Ograniczenia wykonywania zawodu zostały usunięte na mocy ustawy z 9 maja 2014 r. o ułatwieniu dostępu do wykonywania niektórych zawodów w ramach tzw. II transzy deregulacji. To, co może być przedmiotem obecnej debaty, to raczej próba oszacowania konsekwencji tej decyzji z perspektywy szans i możliwości realizacji zawodu. Deregulacja nie doprowadziła bowiem do likwidacji profesji, a największym poszkodowanym stały się przede wszystkim korporacje zawodowe. Na rzeczywistą ocenę skutków gospodarczych trzeba jednak będzie poczekać.

In the public discourse, discussion on the effects of the deregulation of professions often follows two dominant lines of debate. The first highlights the lost privileges of the particular professional group, the other questions the efficiency of such policy, depending on the particularilities of specific professional groups which face deregulation. In the text, the deregulation is considered through the lenses of two opposing concepts of political economy – liberalism and interventionism, as the more astute perspective on the genesis and effects of the deregulation. For Polish town planners, the main effects of the deregulation resulted in the abolishment of the corporation and its competences: the discretionary power to grant the licence to work. Symbolically, the deregulation removed planning professionals from the position of the keepers of the quality of the trade entrusted by the State. Effectively, the deregulation delegated this process to the market or towards the clients of planning work - the State and the local governments. All in all, the deregulation of the profession will not affect the right to self-organize to protect the professional interests by the members of the planning professions in other forms than former professional “trade chambers”.
