To outline an area of the cast shadow from an object on a topographic surface often becomes a decisive factor for various design works concerning a land development planning e.g. for housing construction, recreation centers, cultivation etc. So far geometrical constructions essential for solving the cast shadows problem have been presented mainly by means of the Monge projection, central perspective or axonometric projection. In this article several cases of defining cast shadows from simple geometrical objects upon topographic surface have been solved in the mapping projection method, which seems to be particularly interesting for cartographers and geodetic surveyors. Some of the cases have been shown both in parallel and central lightning
