The discussed book is a second part of professorial lectures concerning the protection of cultural heritage – a total of 17 papers read in 2001-2003. The published texts deal with, i. a., archaeological discoveries (the excavations in Faras and Naqlun and the most recent research conducted in Greater Poland), the history of Polish mores (e.g. the attitude of the Polish gentry during the sixteenth-eighteenth century towards historical monuments, the place of the woman in modern gentry culture), as well as the conservation and history of art. Many of the articles discuss the topical question of the social and political conditions for the protection of cultural heritage in Poland as well as international co-operation involving the protection of souvenirs of the past.
