W artykule poruszone zostały zagadnienia związane z dwiema stosunkowo młodymi subdyscyplinami socjologii: „nową” socjologią dzieciństwa oraz socjologią emocji. Znaczący kontekst podjętym rozważaniom nadało rozróżnienie dwóch odmiennych podejść do badań nad dzieckiem i jego rozwojem. Dominująca rola psychologii w badaniach nad dzieckiem do końca lat 80. ubiegłego stulecia została ograniczona na rzecz odkryć socjologów, antropologów czy historyków dzieciństwa; uwolniony został „nowy” paradygmat w badaniach nad dzieciństwem: „nowa” socjologia dzieciństwa. Tym samym, autorka zestawia wybrane obszary i elementy „nowej” socjologii dzieciństwa i socjologii emocji, w celu uzyskania odpowiedzi na postawione pytania badawcze o miejsce i znaczenie emocji dzieci i nastawienia emocjonalnego dorosłych w badaniach nad dzieciństwem w ujęciu socjologicznym i szerzej – społeczno-kulturowym. W artykule zrekonstruowany został proces badawczy, w ramach którego autorka podejmowała kolejne czynności badawcze, poszukując znaczenia emocji dzieci i nastawienia emocjonalnego dorosłych wobec dzieci na przestrzeni wieków.
