Reversal theory attempts to explain the dynamic process of human life, which in most cases proceeds without dramatic changes, yet which in certain conditions is subject to sudden reversals in an individual's experience along the continuum of like-dislike. The paper focuses on the basic conditions enabling an emotional reversal to take place, the characteristics of the basic pairs of metamotivational states (e.g. telic-paratelic, mastery-sympathy, autic-alloic). The second part of the article focuses on the possibilities for the application of reversal theory in practice, particularly in the context of outdoor physical activities.
