The paper analyses the differences in women’s and men’s wages in Poland. In most studies the conclusions about wage differences are formulated using wage average. Unlike in those studies, we analyse wage distribution using various distribution characteristics. It turns out that comparing the mode of wages can lead to slightly different conclusions than using the average does. The overlap index of wage distributions is used to make an overall comparison of distributions. The theory that the employment structure by occupation reduces the level of women’s mean wages is not borne out. Data on wages of full-time employed persons in October 2008 were taken from the Polish CSO.
