The purpose of the article is to present issues related to creating a virtual personality and establishing online relationships. Based on “Catfish”, a documentary by Nev Schulman and on Tom Boelstroff’s book “Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human”, the author has carried out a case study on couples in online games and a study of the concept of cat-fishing and its various varieties. The essay focuses on the emotions and feelings of the users, based on quotes from avatars, as researched by Tom Boelstroff. As a result of the analyses, the website as a sphere of human cognition presents itself as a place of intimacy on its own terms.
