Pozycja Chin zaczęła ulegać poprawie po przejęciu władzy przez Deng Xiaopinga. Rok 1978 stał się przełomową datą, która zmieniła oblicze i miejsce Chin w ładzie globalnym. Jednym z kluczowych celów stało się wprowadzenie strategii czterech modernizacji. W krótkim czasie przeobraziły się w reformy społeczno-ekonomiczne oraz politykę „otwartych drzwi”. Kluczem do sukcesu w rozwoju handlu międzynarodowego Chin był akces do WTO w 2001 roku oraz zainicjowanie działań dążących do wprowadzenia polityki proeksportowej.

Position of China improved after the takeover of power by Deng Xiaoping. The year 1978 became a milestone that changed the face and the place of China in global governance. One of the key objectives of the strategy was the introduction of four modernization. In a short time these reforms were transformed into socio – economic reform and policy of "open doors". The key to success in the development of international trade was China's accession to the WTO in 2001 as well as initiating actions aimed at the introduction of pro-export policy.
