Wooden elements can be found in many historic architectural structures. In the conservation of these elements one has to pay attention to the function played by them in a given object (constructional systems, decorative elements of the interiors insulational ones et.c.). Before taking up conservation work it is necessary to study kinds of the damage of these elements (reduced constructional cross-sections caused by biological corrosion, deforming, bending and cracking of beams, their decay and weakening). Conservation techniques and solutions should be adjusted to the function and kinds of the damage We can distinguish two kinds of consolidations applied in hitherto building and conservation tie constructions: the first group comprises the introduction of new systems irrespective of constructional designs and kind of the material introduced; the second group represents structural consolidations consisting in the use of technological and chemical procedures that preserve the material and its original resistance properties. Methods employed in the second group include, i.a., consolidation of tie beams by the insertion of reinfornement bars from epoxide resins. The method has been described in this article in full detail.
