Eye injuries are one of the main causes of serious visual impairment, especially in men of productive age, whose ability to work and quality of life are thus negatively affected. Eye trauma is a very dramatic and sudden cause of loss of sight, which is why it is so feared and – for many patients – literally shocking. This paper focuses on eye injuries on a general level. It points out several psychosocial aspects related to this traumatic event. It presents the results of monitoring and a questionnairebased survey of 29 respondents with severe eye injuries treated between 1. 9. 2007 and 31. 8. 2009.
