Tytułowa ‚ekspertyza’ w powieści Hugo Loetschera „Abwässer: Ein Gutachten” (Ścieki: Ekspertyza) przedstawia nie tylko opis miejsca pracy konserwatora sieci wodno-kanalizacyjnej. Poprzez zestawienie obowiązków i warunków pracy przebijają się prywatne przeżycia głównego bohatera, które świadczą o wyjątkowości tego stanowiska, rzutującego na jego życie osobiste. Postać owego konserwatora jako łącznika pomiędzy naszym światem a światem podziemnym jest pretekstem do głębszej analizy naszego stosunku do wybranych aspektów ochrony środowiska, zagadnień związanych z osobami wyrzuconymi poza margines społeczeństwa, ale przede wszystkim naszego stosunku do tego, czego nie akceptujemy, co przemilczamy, co wypieramy z naszej świadomości. W artykule podjęto próbę opisania niektórych aspektów owej głębszej warstwy znaczeniowej debiutanckiej powieści szwajcarskiego pisarza.

The eponymous ‘expert assessment’ in the novel by Hugo Loetscher “Abwässer: Ein Gutachten” (Sewage: An Expert Assessment) is not a mere description of the workplace of a sewage plant maintenance person. The presentation of his duties and working conditions also reveals private experiences of the protagonist, which show the uniqueness of the post influencing his private life. The figure of the maintenance person as a liaison between our world and the underground world serves as a pretext for a deeper analysis of our attitude towards certain aspects of environment protection, the issues connected with those rejected by the society and above all our attitude towards all that we do not accept, that we leave unsaid, that we repel from our consciousness. The paper is an attempt to describe some of the aspects of the deeper meaning structure of the debut novel of the Swiss writer.
