This article undertakes the issue of translation of the computer role-playing game Wiedźmin (The Witcher) from Polish into German. The aim of the article is to present conclusions from the translationoriented analysis, as well as laying the foundations for further linguistic research in the fi eld of computer games. The translation-oriented analysis is divided in three main levels: lexicon, style and cultural elements. The lexicon analysis consists of two aspects, namely terminology and proper nouns. The style covers dialectizing and vulgarisms. The cultural level analyzes cultural references and allusions. The analysis proves that the translation of Wiedźmin from Polish into German was a diffi cult task and is not fl awless on any level. It was especially complicated to equivalently translate the cultural references that refer to Polish literature or popular culture. The dialectical stylization and richness of Polish vulgarisms were also problematic to translate and were therefore replaced with neutral German expressions that do not depict the lingual diversity of the game. The paper ends with the conclusion pointing out the problems uncovered through the analysis and aims at making computer games an object of linguistic studies in the future.
