W artykule poruszone zostały kwestie związane z powojennym problemem nazewniczym na tzw. Ziem Odzyskanych. Zagadnienie to jest ważne gdyż oddaje istotę przemian społecznych, politycznych czy administracyjnych jakie zachodziły w okresie po II wojnie światowej na badanym obszarze. Zasadniczym celem było ukazanie złożoności problemu jakim było powojenne przywracanie nazewnictwa miejscowego. Istotne jest też zobrazowanie znaczenia polskości nazw dla nowo przesiedlonej ludności. Celem pobocznym było przedstawienie, poprzez złożoność zagadnień onomastycznych, skomplikowanej przeszłości omawianych ziem. Podstawowym pytaniem jest: dlaczego doszło do tego, że nazwy miejscowe trzeba było w ogóle zmieniać oraz kto i w jaki sposób tego dokonywał? Artykuł podzielony został na trzy części: Sytuacja nazewnicza po II wojnie światowej na Ziemiach Zachodnich, Początki powojennego oficjalnego ustalania nazw oraz Działalność Komisji Ustalania Nazw Miejscowości. Omawia on problematykę nazewniczą w okresie bezpośrednio powojennym, w którym to zachodziły największe przemiany w nazewnictwie (do roku 1950). Terytorialnie zaś dotyczy tzw. Ziem Odzyskanych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Ziem Zachodnich (m.in. obszaru dzisiejszego powiatu słubickiego).

The article deals with the issues related to the post-war onomastic problems on the so-called “Recovered Lands”. This issue is important because it depicts the essence of social, political and administrative changes that occurred after World War II in these lands. The main aim was to show the complexity of the problems stemming from re-introducing local names. It was also important to depict the significance of the Polish identity of those names for the newly resettled population. The secondary aim of the article was to show the complicated past of the discussed lands by presenting the complexity of the onomastic issues. The basic question discussed in the paper was what happened that the local names needed to be changed in the first place, as well as who changed them and in what way. The article was divided into three parts: The onomastic situation in the Western Recovered Lands after WWII, The beginnings of the official post-war name-changing processes and the Activity of the Commission for the Determination of Place Names. It discusses the onomastic issues in period directly following the war, when most of the name changes occurred (up until the year 1950). In means of territorial restrictions, it deals with the region of the so-called Recovered Lands with the emphasis on the Western Lands (which include the territory of the contemporary Słubice County, among others).
