Reconstruction of an early medieval farmstead on the island on Lake Lednica called Ostrów Lednicki (Lednica Holm) created convenient conditions for designing some testing grounds for medieval Slavonic crops. These plots, situated nearby the farmstead (fig. 7), are planned to be sown over with basic crops of the sort cultivated in this region in the early Middle Ages. The plants were chosen on the basis of palaeobotanical research conducted first of all in Greater Poland and described in the article. These are: parsnip (Pastinaca sativa), proso millet or common millet (Panicum miliaceum), common flax or linseed (Linum usitatissimum), lentil (Lens culinaris), broad bean or field bean (Vicia faba), turnip or Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris), emmer wheat (Triticum dicoccum). Thee testing grounds are also planned to be expanded and sown over with other crops cultivated in this area in the Middle Ages.
