At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a new method of treatment stirred up a discussion in Polish medical magazines – organotherapy, initiated by Brown-Séquard and his theory, later developed by Poehl. Scientists were concerned about uncritical reports on treatment with testicle juice and spermin. Reports suggested that those “medicines” work as rejuvenating remedies, elixir of life, aphrodisiac or panacea. This article presents that discussion and research related to those issues, conducted by Polish chemists and medical doctors
