The article summarizes problems in transcribing the ‘sharp s’ (ß) into Czech according to the German and Swiss norms; it offers insights that can be applied in Czech editorial practice. It also comments on the introduction in 2017 of a new German grapheme for upper case ‘ß’ (Unicode U+1E9E).
