The present volume of Études et Travaux we are proudly presenting to our readers deserves attention for at least two reasons. On the one hand, being the thirty second issue in the series it confirms the strong and durable position of the journal on the international scholarly periodicals’ market. On the other, it is a completely new proposal of a homogenous, special volume in which we have abandoned the thematic diversity of the previous issues in favour of a multi-faceted, in-depth presentation of the ancient and medieval cultures of Sudan.
