In this paper, on the basis of the mortality data in 2007 obtained from the Central Statistical Office of Poland, the values of death probability and mortality rate are estimated for men and women aged 60-99. Then 18 functions which are most commonly used by demographers as age patterns of old age mortality are fitted to the empirical values. In accordance with the assumed criteria, the best parametric models are selected.
