According to the German literature 1936 Olympic Games in Ga-Pa and Berlin played an important role as a strengthening factor of the Nazi dictatorship in the II Reich and helped Hitler to acquire the leading role among other European nations. For the first time in Olympic history the state involved so much in the organization of this event. In 1936 Olympic Games were strongly saturated with unimaginable mass of both Olympic and Nazi symbols. Berlin Games occupy an important place in the history of the twentieth century, mainly due to the fact of World War II trauma and the scale of Germany and the Germans responsibility for the war crimes. Despite this negative context, Anglo-Saxon and German historians agree that the Olympics 1936 helped to popularize the idea of the Olympic and set new standards at least in the organizational aspects. Historians over the world are still discussing about IOC ’s, USA ’s and Europa’s governments’ attitude to Hitler. In this paper the issue of the Hitler’s abuse of the Olympic ideas was described along with all controversy surrounding the cooperation between German dictator and IOC. Additionally Germany preparations for the both the 1916 and the 1936 Olympic Games were presented. One also outlined the evolution of the Germany’s attitude towards the Olympic Movement and Olympic Ideas at the time of the Second Empire, the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich.
