Patrząc na współczesny świat, nie sposób nie zauważyć istotnego wpływu nowych technologii komunikacyjnych na funkcjonowanie ponowoczesnych społeczeństw. Jedną z jego konsekwencji jest powstanie społeczeństwa sieci konstytuowanego w oparciu o nowy sposób przepływu informacji, dokonujący się w infrastrukturze sieci społecznych, wspartych technologiami internetowymi i medialnymi umożliwiającymi ich istnienie. Kształtują one sposób organizacji społeczeństwa na wszystkich poziomach, od jednostek po organizacje, i dalej – po struktury ponadnarodowe i globalne. Ma to wpływ również na funkcjonowanie osób niepełnosprawnych we współczesnym społeczeństwie, bowiem powstające wspólnoty wirtualne stanowią przestrzeń, gdzie w ramach oddolnych samopomocowych działań i aktywności ludzi mających podobne problemy dochodzi do wymiany informacji ważnych dla tej kategorii osób. Dzięki forom i serwisom społecznościowym tworzą się sieci, w ramach których osoby niepełnosprawne uzyskują możliwość dostępu do informacji. Można zatem powiedzieć, że profile i fora stanowią przestrzeń wirtualną, w której kształtuje się nowy typ społeczności osób niepełnosprawnych, gdzie mogą dzielić się swoimi problemami, pokazują metody rozwiązań, pomagając sobie wzajemnie i udzielając wsparcia pozainstytucjonalnego. Podstawowym celem naszego artykułu jest ukazanie, jakie informacje są dostępne w sieci: na profilach i forach prowadzonych przez osoby niepełnosprawne i adresowanych do tego środowiska. Pozwoli to odtworzyć zasadnicze pola, wokół których toczy się dyskusja w przestrzeni Internetu w odniesieniu do kwestii związanych z niepełnosprawnością, dzięki czemu przeanalizujemy znaczenie sieci oraz pokażemy obraz, jaki osoby niepełnosprawne same prezentują, dzięki aktywnemu udziałowi w sieciach internetowych.

Looking at the world today, it is impossible not to notice the significant impact of new communication technologies on the functioning of postmodern societies. One of its consequences is the formation of a network society constituted based on a new way of data flow in the social network infrastructure, supported by the Internet and media technologies that enable their existence. They form the way of society organization at all levels, from entities to organizations, and further - the transnational and global structures. It also affects the functioning of disabled persons in modern society, as emerging virtual communities stands for a space where, under the bottom-up and self-help actions and activities of people having similar problems, information important for this category of people is being exchanged. Thanks to the forums and social services, social networks are formed in which persons with disabilities gain access to information. One may say that the profiles and forums stand for a virtual space, in which a new type of community of persons with disabilities is formed, where they can share their problems, they show the methods of solutions, helping each other and providing out-of-institutional support. The primary goal of our article is to show what kind of information is available on the Web: on profiles and forums run by persons with disabilities and which are addressed to this environment. This will restore the fundamental fields, around which there is a debate in the Internet space in relation to disability issues, so that we will examine the significance of networks and show the image that persons with disabilities represent themselves, through their active participation in the Internet networks.
