The Repatriation Department (PUR) was originally established to organize and supervise people’s migration and settlement. It served its function in the years 1944–1951. Its activity also concentrated on suitable health protection of the community. Its priority was to stop diseases from spreading among people. Medical-sanitary institutions of the Repatriation Department were of great importance, often as the only ones, helping the needy in a given area. Concerned about people’s welfare and health condition, they helped in various ways. And the situation in this respect was particularly wretched in newly-acquired area in the west and north. The number of institutions as well as the kind of staff depended on intensity of migratory movements.
