The paper interprets perhaps the most important film of the great filmmaker died in 2007. This essay describes the ways of perceiving and imagining in which film characters make sense of their life and analyzes these methods as different strategies of reacting to existential fear connected with the death and the senselessness. In the perspective of the Apocalypse, quoted in the film, and the theology of the image all these modes of perception and cultural forms – visions, delusions, performances, games and simulations – appear false. Only one of the main characters called Mia can see the world in true, because she is full of love – she is named „The Eighth Seal” here since she symbolizes God. It seems that „The Seventh Seal” is the key to understanding all movies directed by Bergman.
