Kształt francuskiego rynku dzienników regionalnych i ogólnokrajowych jest wynikiem współdziałania wielu czynników. Jednym z nich są preferencje czytelników, choć artykuł dotyczy jedynie tych, które czynią francuski rynek prasy codziennej specyficznym. Przedstawiono w nim tradycje czytelnicze we Francji oraz różnorodność rynku prasy codziennej. Specyficzne pojmowanie roli tej prasy przez czytelników powoduje, że nie funkcjonują tam dzienniki bulwarowe. Także rynek prasy regionalnej jest kształtowany przez czytelników, bowiem najchętniej kupowanym i czytywanym tytułem w kraju jest „Ouest-France”. Cały system jest sztucznie podtrzymywany przez państwo za pomocą subwencji traktowanych przez Francuzów jako wyraz pluralizmu mediów.

The character of the French market of the regional and national dailies is the result of concurrence of many factors. One of them are the preferences of readers, though the article pertains only to those readers that make the French newspaper market specific. The article presents traditions of reading in France and the diversity of the daily press market. An important fact for this system is understanding by the readers the role played by the daily press, which contributed to not existing there boulevard dailies. Also the regional press market is being shaped by the readers, since the best sold and read title is “Ouest-France”. The whole system is artificially supported and thus kept alive by the state by means of subsidies treated by the French as a sign of media pluralism.
