Teza/cel artykułu – W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia najnowszych kierunków prac dla zapewnienia współdziałania metadanych bibliotecznych. Metody badań – Wykorzystano metodę analizy piśmiennictwa dotyczącego współdziałania systemów informatycznych oraz narzędzi służących zapewnieniu współdziałania metadanych. Wyniki – Prace służące standaryzacji w obszarze metadanych bibliotecznych, realizowane od XIX w., obecnie zmierzają w kierunku dostosowania rozwiązań do potrzeb i możliwości sieci rozległych. Wnioski – Dostosowanie standardów używanych w bibliotekach do rozwiązań stosowanych powszechnie w sieciach rozległych daje nowe perspektywy w zakresie współdziałania metadanych, a pośrednio – funkcjonowania systemów informacyjno-wyszukiwawczych.

Objective – The paper is an attempt to present the most recent trends for ensuring interoperability of library metadata. Research methods - The author uses the analysis of the literature concerning the interoperability of information systems and tools ensuring the interoperability of metadata. Results - Various standardization steps in the field of library metadata, implemented since the nineteenth century, currently are adjusted to the needs and capabilities of wide-area networks. In this environment the interoperability of metadata is particularly important. The paper presents problems of interoperability of information systems and tools ensuring metadata interoperability. Recent activities in this field are related to the concept of Linked Data. Metadata vocabularies used in the area of librarianship are being transferred to RDF in order to make them available as Linked Data. There is also an ongoing work on the implementation of Linked Data in integrated library systems. Conclusions - The adjustment of standards used in libraries to the solutions commonly used in wide-area networks offers a new perspective for the interoperability of metadata, and, indirectly, for the operation of information retrieval systems.
