The debate on “(Rule of) Law and politics. a dispute between the government of the Republic of Poland and the European Commission” was supposed to bring the audience closer to the issue that has been warming up emotions both in Poland and in the European Union since 2015. It dealt the problem of reforming the Polish constitutional judiciary and common courts. In the couse of the debate, a lot of criticism about the Polish government was voiced, most often unsupported by factual arguments, which of course affected the quality of the whole meeting. There were more references to political sympathies and judgments of the current authorities than to an objective discussion on the issue, important for Poles and Poland.
