The main aim of this paper is to provide some useful methods of teaching Italian economic language for specific purposes (LSP). It is claimed that the strategies of planning and implementing LSP classes taught both to students of linguistics departments and to students of economic faculties, and specialists should be carried out on the basis of needs analysis. For this reason, the first part of this article focuses on the most important features of LSP curriculum and on the role of the teacher, who has to change their attitude towards recipients and has to become "a learner among learners" referring to content-related materials. Furthermore, the characteristics of Italian press articles dedicated to economics and financial affairs are analyzed as the elements that facilitate the learning process at the LSP classes. The specialized journalistic texts can provide interesting examples of the use of terminology in a nonprofessional context and help to introduce the economic notions, terms and their definitions. The last section describes briefly the lexical exercises based on the selected authentic texts as an example of activities in economic Italian classes.
