Among the great number o f the remarkable personalities, who were very important in the history o f the education in Poland and in the period o f the literature in the reign o f the king Stanisław Poniatowski was indisputably Józef Jakubowski, first the captain o f the artillery, the professor o f The Corps o f Cadets and the Corps o f Horse Artillery, then the visitator o f the Congregation o f the M ission’ priests in Poland. Today we can say, that the priest Jakubowski was similarly as the priest Tarło, subsequent Bishop o f Poznań and the priest Śliwicki the most courageous manager o f Polish priests o f the Congregation of the Mission. „In the most difficult times Jakubowski was the man sent by the Providence. He rescued the Congregation in the storm, He made in Prussia the reimbursement o f the clerical funds. He improved the quality o f the education in the Saint Cross’s seminary. He opposed the lawlessness and the appropriations. The age, the science, the post, the unblemished life, the merits, all was in him. The cameras, the magistrates had to bow before his will, because Jakubowski could defend himself. Not only the bishops, but also the scientists treated him with the respect”.
