Fates of the officers of the prewar police apparatus in post-war in Poland could become the subject of the keen interest only after the political transformation, when problems until now overlooked both in historiography as well as for the journalism, ceased to be a „forbidden fruit”. These studies proved the difficult situation of this professional group which was liable to diverse repressions, tied among others with depriving them of vested interests. This article deals with the current arrangements in this respect, clarifying the situation of retired, as well as professionally active police officers of the State Police and the Polish Police in post-war reality. The basis for this analysis were both legal measures directed towards former police officers and a practice related to their functioning in the public life.
