Tekst analizuje dyskusję na temat znaczenia płci w przestrzeni miejskiej obecną w krytycznej geografii od lat siedemdziesiątych ubiegłego wieku. Opisuje proces wzajemnego konstruowania przestrzeni i gender. Wskazuje na dwa zasadnicze wątki nierówności (strach, dostęp do przestrzeni publicznej) oraz pokazuje, jak może wyglądać w praktyce polityka gender mainstreaming w planowaniu przestrzennym.

The article contributes to an ongoing discussion of the role of gender in urban spaces. The debate started in the area of human geography in the 70s. The article focuses on the mutual dependencies of gender and space, and it looks at the ways gender and space are constructed in the modern society. The article points out two crucial aspects of inequalities, fear and access to public space, and gives several suggestions of gender mainstreaming policy in urban planning.
